National Heritage Week, August 2019
National Heritage Week this year runs from the 17th to the 25th August 2019 and is part of European Heritage Days. These are a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union in which over forty countries participate each year. The main aim of European Heritage Days are to promote awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage and to promote Europe’s common cultural heritage. Every year millions of Europeans visit historical monuments and sites throughout Europe on European Heritage Days. In Ireland we celebrate European Heritage Days with a full week of events throughout National Heritage Week.
Some of our local top picks would include the “Curator’s Choice – Artefacts from the Cork Public Museum” talk with Dan Breen, curator of Cork Public Museum on at Cork City Library on the 20th August from 7pm – 8pm and a chance to take a tour of the enigmatic Ballycotton Lighthouse on the 17th August from 10am to 8pm.
